Foster, Bristol Born in Toronto where he did his Bachelor's degree in Biology and Master's in Mammalogy on a rare subarctic rodent at the University of Toronto. By then he had been in school for 21 years and figured it was time for an adventure. So he took off around the world for 18 months with Robert Bateman in a Landrover crossing Africa, India, Southeast Asia and Australia. Bristol then went to Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) to study the evolution of the native mammals of the archipelago for his PhD at UBC. He had caught africanitis when he crossed Africa with Bob Bateman so Bristol drove down from London to Nairobi to teach wildlife ecology at the University of Nairobi for 5 years. Here he wrote a book on his studies of giraffe. He then returned to BC to become the Director of the Royal BC Museum for the next 6 years. When the novelty of this desk job wore off he led a government program to establish Ecological Reserves throughout BC for the next 10 years. Since then he has made 14 natural history documentaries and help to lead ecotours on four continents.

Fuchs, Jeff

Having lived for most of the past decade in Asia, Fuchs’ work has centered on indigenous mountain cultures, oral histories and with an obsessive interest in tea. His photos and stories have appeared in World Geographic, The Earth, Silkroad Foundation, The China Post Newspaper, New Ideas, Outdoor Exploration, Voyage, Outpost, The Toronto Star and Traveler, with published work appearing on three continents. His work and life were the inspiration for a Chinese television documentary “Follow Me” (Tanglong International Media Group), which focused upon a project in which he lived with Tibetan nomads at 5000 metres for a month. Ultimately his continued returns to the eastern Himalayas have found him a home there amidst tea and mountains.

His recently released book The Ancient Tea Horse Road (Penguin Publishers) details his 8-month groundbreaking journey traveling and chronicling one of the world’s great trade routes, The Tea Horse Road. Fuchs is the first westerner to have completed the entire route stretching almost six thousand kilometers through the Himalayas and a dozen cultures.

Gregg, Andrew

Andrew Gregg left southern Ontario in 1986 and got into television-in the Yukon. His career has always been a bit accidental-a lucky break led to a stint at CBC's The Journal beginning in 1989 and a quick decision to quit in 1996 led to a wildly fun documentary film making career. Andrew has worked all over the world, making films for CBC-including the premiere episode of "Canada: A Peoples History," several episodes of Life and Times, "Locked Horns" for Witness and "Geologic Journey: Rockies." His work has also been seen on Discovery Canada, History Television and CTV and internationally on Discovery, National Geographic (with fellow club member Wade Davis), NHK, Smithsonian and ARTE. He is currently finishing a four part series called "The Adventurers" for CBC's The Nature of Things, shot in Borneo, Egypt, Polynesia and Baja. His next project is with photographer and EC medal winner Chris Rainier, on a journey to meet the Mentawai of Siberut, off the west coast of Sumatra. That project has been sold to Bravo/The Doc Channel/Smithsonian Television. He is also planning to work on new CBC series, "Geologic Journey: World." Most of Andrew's work is done with 90th Parallel Productions in Toronto.

Lucas, Zoe

Zoe was born in Halifax in 1950, and attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (now NSCAD University), receiving an MFA in 1977. Following graduation, she taught part-time at the college, and in the meantime (beginning in 1974), began working on Sable Island as a volunteer field assistant with Dalhousie University researchers studying seals. In the early 1980s Zoe chose to be involved full-time with Sable projects. During the last three decades she has worked in various research and monitoring programs including terrain restoration; environmental impact studies; and research on dune vegetation, persistent litter in the marine environment, shark predation on seals, and survey of flora and fauna in the island's freshwater ponds. Long-term projects include study of Sable Island horses, and beach surveys for oiled seabirds and stranded cetaceans. Results of these research programs have been published in various peer-reviewed scientific journals. Since 2002 Zoe has managed and prepared text and images for the Sable Island website www.GreenHorseSociety.com, and in 2004 became a Research Associate with the Nova Scotia Museum. Since 2006 she has been chairman of the Friends of the Green Horse Society, and in 2008 she received an honorary degree (Doctor of Laws) from Dalhousie University. On average Zoe spends about ten months per year on the island, returning to the mainland for several two- to four-week periods for meetings and work with project collaborators, and to give presentations for public interest groups and schools.

McGrath, Meagan November 2009, Meagan McGrath will journey, solo, over 1130km on foot, unassisted and unsupported from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, dragging 285lbs of food, fuel, equipment in a sled for 60 days. With only a month to rest, Meagan will then attempt to climb, unguided and without oxygen, six of the world's tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, in an effort to become the First Canadian to summit the world's 14 highest mountains, all exceeding 8000m in height. All of this adventure in a one-year period promises to be one of those rare and exciting expeditions that tests the will, daring and skill of any adventurer - let alone a young woman who's desire it is to demonstrate that life is worth living and experiencing. Meagan McGrath has climbed many peaks throughout the world. In May 2007, Meagan summitted Mount Everest, achieving her goal to climb the Seven Summits - the highest mountain on each Continent. In January 2008, she became the First Canadian Woman to summit the Carstenz Pyramid version of the Seven Summits, becoming the only Canadian woman to achieve both versions of this mountain challenge. You're invited to follow Meagan on her adventures by visiting: www.meaganmcgrathadventurer.com

Morrow, Pat

Pat's photographic career took off when he scaled Mount Everest in 1982 as the official photographer for Canada's first expedition to that mountain. By 1986, he reached the summit of Irian Jaya's Carstensz Pyramid, thus completing the Seven Summits project. His book, Beyond Everest: Quest for the Seven Summits, documents that hallmark adventure. He received the Order of Canada in 1988 and the Summit of Excellence at the 1990 Banff Mountain Film Festival. Pat has either led or been a photographer or camera operator on over 40 expeditions to date, 20 of them to peaks above 5000m, and on 20 treks of 30 days or longer in the Himalaya, Karakorum and Kunlun Ranges. In the early 70s, Pat joined forces with environmental activists in the East Kootenay region of B.C. where he grew up, to help establish the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy. Today he and his wife Baiba are back in the Kootenays, based in Wilmer, BC, where the reknowned mountain guide Conrad Kain spent the last years of his life. Pat and Baiba continue to lend their support to Wildsight conservation efforts aimed at mitigating the destructive forces of industrial tourism development and extractive industries in the Purcell Mountain range and neighbouring Rockies. www.patmorrow.com, www.conradkain.com.

Treloar, Lee

Lee Treloar is an avid polar adventurer, photographer and writer who has travelled extensively in both the Arctic and the Antarctic, completely circumnavigating the top and bottom of the globe.
The purpose of Lee's polar explorations has been both educational and inspirational. Through writing, photography and presentations she is able to share her love and concern for the fragile, yet dynamic ecosystems icy ends of the earth.
Lee has always loved adventure travel but it was in 1999 that her polar passion was born on at trip to Canada's newest territory, Nunavut. Here she discovered the solitude and magnitude of the North. Along with the amazing photographic opportunities, she found stories of adventure and heroism and she discovered a rich culture dating back thousands of years. It was on that voyage that she met her sponsor Dr. Denis St-Onge O.C., F.I '05 and, in the ensuing years they have shared their enthusiasm for all things polar.
Since that first foray, Lee has been on numerous expeditions including several journeys through the fabled Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic and a very memorable expedition through the much less known, North East Passage across the top of the Russian Arctic.
She travelled around both sides of the Antarctica, on four different expeditions, including the seldom visited "Far Side."Lee feels at home in the polar regions but collects her mail and pays her taxes in Abbotsford, BC, in the beautiful Fraser Valley, just outside of Vancouver. When she is not travelling, Lee enjoys the solitude of the sea at her cabin on Mayne Island.
Lee is an active member of the Abbotsford Photo Arts Club, the Canadian Association for Photographic Arts and is recognized for her polar photography and lively seminar presentations.
Lee's images and adventures may be seen at: www.leesviewfinder.com, or her Giclee Art Studio at www.LeeTreloar.com
