There are 202 numbered Explorers Club flags which are allotted to be carried on expeditions meeting certain scientific criteria. Examples include The Apollo missions, Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon Tiki and James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenger. Records and notes from Flag Expeditions are collated and archived by the Club.
Explorers Club Fellows, Members, and Term Members in good standing are eligible to apply for the honour of carrying one of our historic flags into the field.Each application is thoroughly reviewed by The Flag and Honors Committee and must meet a strict set of criteria.
